I'd really appreciate some help from members who have either a keen eye or some devices to sort of some color varieties of one particular stamp that I have.

I realize that it is highly unlikely these are uncatalogued variants, and heresy to even suggest so. More likely they are just weathered or aged.

But still, I'd welcome any comments or viewpoints.

This is one stamp from Newfoundland (Scott/Unitrade #60), and as you can see from the image, I have established these varieties:

1. #60 in Slate color
2. #60a in Grey Lilac
3. #60b in Brown Lilac
4. #60c in Lilac
5. #60d in Slate Violet

and just for kicks (comparison baseline): #60i which is on red tinted paper.

But there are three others below that are "?" because to me they look truly like a different color to the above.

What say you?

Hi Tommy,

I had a very similar topic at the following thread:

Evidently, one of these was dropped into the ocean. I also show one with that slightly greenish tint.

Partime,

Fascinating. You were on to this already.

You definitely have 60i, which is on red or pink tinted paper. Yep, both Bogg's History of Newfoundland and the NSSC catalog references a lot of them that were shipwrecked, recovered and issued nonetheless. Diving deeper (pun intended) I would be curious on where and when that wrecked occurred because the stamps were printed by the British American Bank Note Company but by the Ottawa branch -- so why didnt they go by land? Is not Ottawa and Newfoundland connected by land?

I'm particularly interested in the other color groupings/varieties not on the red tinted paper. And you look to have one on the color reference too.

Thanks

Newfoundland is an island. It is accessible by either boat or plane. It is not even close to Ottawa.

Once upon a time, there was a Newfie. A genie appeared to the man, and offered him one wish.

"Well," said the man, "I've always want to go back to Newfoundland, but plane tickets are so expensive, and boats are so slow. Can you build a bridge from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland?"

"I'm sorry, man," the genie said. "You're pretty much asking for the impossible. That's over a hundred miles of bridge. Plus, you'll need fuel stations and motels on the way. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to ask for something else."

"Oh," said the disappointed man. "Well, can you grant me My high school diploma ?"

The genie cleared his throat. "What colour do you want that bridge?"
