Wanna hear the craziest thing you've heard today?

I think your etoile ancre might actually be a Paris star 17 (maybe 27) upside down...

edit: the page break makes it tough to compare...

Cjd - what you are indicating makes perfect sense! I kind of thought is was a funny anchor - your comparison leaves no doubt I confused it with a Paris Star. To be honest I was so happy to have found that 'anchor' amidst other junk, so it didn't even occure to me it was the Paris star. Guess one sees what one wants to see. But hey, that's the good thing with this forum - others eyes and expertize always comes in handy. Much appreciated!
( ...and btw thanks for ruining my day! I'll go to bed)

With the smudge, it looks remarkably like an anchor. At least the other two look nice.

And unless you already have them all, a 17 (or 27, or 37 ) is nice to have, too, no?

I have one of those cancels on cover, although not as crisp as the one on the marcophilie website.

Any idea as to value?

Also, there was discussion of maritime anchor cancels. Here are a few:

And other used abroad cancels. I think Maury has a list of all of the numbers and their locations. There is also a list buried in the website above. Collecting these cancels by location (number) would be all sorts of fun, given that there are thousands of numbers.

Now that's what I call fantastic examples of postal history!! Have no clue about the value of the maritime Barca cover, but I would offer $5 anytime...
I enjoy to see others with a keen interest in forerunners / used abroad postmarks - that's the kind of items I personally desire the most. The marcophille website makes the identification straight forward - and it opens a 'new world' in terms of appreciating the classic French. Thanks for sharing - that topic could deserve a thread by itself

Hi All]

I was at a stamp show in Owen Sound yesterday and was lucky to get these covers with cachets from the Belgian Naval Fleet, and, at a very good price too.
