I'm trying to track down a copy of a Linn's article/column that Richard Friedberg wrote at some point in 1991 giving an overview of the auction of the Morton Dean Joyce Collection of U.S. Revenues.
I contacted Richard and he looked through his old tearsheets, but cannot locate the column.
I need a high-res scan if possible.
Thanks.

APRL or WPL probably have copies. If you're an APS member, the APRL will scan and email you a copy for a reasonable fee. C. |

Hi
The obvious is to contact Linn's Stamp News. I am sure they have a copy of the article in their archives. Whether they will make a copy of the article is another story.

I would suggest trying to find the old stamp auction catalog with prices realized. |

I already have the auction catalog with prices realized. I am looking specifically for this article and the commentary within it. |

I recycled most of my pre-2000 Linn's a few years ago, but I did keep a few and may have also skipped a few storage boxes completely. I'll go check my storage tomorrow. Meanwhile, do you remember the approximate month of the auction. I assume the article was written after the auction was finished (it might save me a little "hunting" time if I can rule out parts of 1991. k |

OK, I Googled and it looks like the auction was Sep 12-14? So I'll see if I can find 1991 Linn's starting with Sep issues. |

There were multiple sessions. The one(s) I am most interested in coverage of were the ones June 4-6, 1991. I don't know if Richard wrote his article following those sessions or after all sessions were complete.
Thanks! |

OK, thanks for the correction. I'll check the table of contents on all the 1991 issues, assuming I still have any.
I noticed that Richard published and sells a book on the Morton Dean Joyce collection. Any possibility he incorporated his article into that book? |

Do you mean "COLLECTOR'S HANDBOOK FOR PRIVATE DIE PROPRIETARY PROOFS AND CENSUS OF THE MORTON DEAN JOYCE COLLECTION OF THESE ISSUES"?
That's not an area I collect. The article in question I'm looking for (supposedly) not only gave an overview, but also some commentary about the prices and/or scarcity of some of the items in the auction. |

Yes, that's the one. I'd figured you already knew about that and whether it was relevant, but thought I'd mention it just to make sure. I'll post again after I visit my storage tomorrow. |

Interest posting.....but now I'm puzzled .... You said "Some commentary about the price and/or scarcity"....How can comments and prices be important 22 years later. There has to be more than a few readers here who are just as puzzled as I .There has been hundreds of U.S.REVENUES stamp auctions with more current pricing and more than a few auctions were the scarcity has changed the market since , some getting harder to find and other auctions where rare items flooded the market .......I ask not to start a issue but because Im puzzled.........I kind of have a interest in rare stamp material coming up for auction ,like the LONG ISLAND ,the recent LITHUANIA auction at Cherrystone ,or the EGYPT auction a few years ago at Kelleher. Was this a once a decade auction ???. |

The Morton Dean Joyce collection is one of the finest, if not THE finest U.S. revenue collection to come to market in the last 75 years. I think it was better than the Tolman collection. There were items in that collection not seen elsewhere or since.
Actually, you can learn a lot from old auction catalogs, and many become sought-after references. This is especially true if you are a cancel specialist, collect specific usages, multiples, or plate varieties. You'll frequently find information and items pictured that you won't find mentioned in Scott or other standard catalogs, other than as fleeting mentions, if that.
The specific reason I am looking for this article is that supposedly Richard talks about an item that I recently acquired, and I'm trying to find out as much information as I can about it. |

Sorry, Dan. The earliest batch I could find only goes back to 1994. Looks like I recycled everything before that.
Hopefully, you will be able to get it from APRL.
