I just remembered something....

When I had my first stint of stamp collecting, the choices were hinges and crystal mounts. Since I collected used at the time, I got a pack of 1000 Dennison hinges. When I got back into the hobby for the second time back in the mid to late 90s, I went all Showgard mounts and even placed orders with Global Stamps for Scott mounts.

Here's where the true crime comes in.....

Since I decided to go all mint and use black mounts, I gave away all my used stamps and... I THREW OUT THE DENNISON HINGES.

There were easily 800 hinges still in that bag...

Apastuszak, I thought one of the Ten Commandments was: "Thou shalt not throw out thy Dennison hinges"?

Nothing to start a thread! Remind me when I try to erase a pencil cat. number on the back of a used thin paper stamp. A 20$ cat value stamp! I tear the stamp and shout. Good thing I had another one but a less better one.

If SCF was around back in 1997, it might have stopped such an atrocity.

I was peeling some hinged stamps from an album page. Most were the kind that leave Hinge Remnants (grr). Then I came across a dennison that peeled right off. And I smiled.

My biggest thing that made me scream was soaking stamps and then placing them in a stamp drying book but they got stuck to the book!! I couldn't remove them from the book no matter what I tried so I tossed the whole book. I have never used a stamp drying book ever again. That made me cry because they were all stamps that I had saved when I lived in West Africa.
