Where would be best to post about these items here, or is there one on going but I'm unable to find one? I just received 4 of these and need them identified and valued so they get put in the right place. I know not one thing about these types of documents. I'm doing good to stay afloat in my stamps. Cheers I'll post the pics on here then I guess we can move it. here they are.

'World Back of Book' is probably the place for this. I don't have much in the way of resources for these, and none at all for any of the more recent examples.

I'll be interested to see what someone else has to say, though.

These are known as Court Fees or stamped papers. They were used to collect the fees charged in courts for various types of documents, such as petitions, submitted to the courts in India. The user paid the amount shown in the large ornamental header, and added extra revenue stamps if they needed to pay more.

Your first two are from the George V era (1910-1936); the other two are from the independent era, from 1947.

Unfortunately, they were used in large numbers, and have no real monetary value. They do look good however.

Thanks for the reply I got these with a new batch with some great pieces in there. I was told some president signed one of them but sadly I cant reed them. The thumb print looks like it was just done. This batch does look wonderful. Wish I could read the darn things that would help.

Sorry, but I can't read them either. They seem to be written in Bengali, and to be from lower courts in Serampore (now part of Calcutta/Kolkata).

I don't see anything suggesting a president. Of course, there couldn't have been one during George V's time. The two post-Independence documents might have some reference to the President, but it's hard to see what he would be doing in a local court in a suburb of Calcutta.

As I said, plenty of these court documents have come onto the market, as old archives are cleared out - or raided.

The Indian States also produced them. Those from Kishangarh are quite readily available

at a couple of dollars a piece.
