Here's a trip into yesteryear: A 1915 report on the stamps printed for the US Post Office Department by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, with many interesting comparisons as to how large the program really was.
It is also interesting to note just how exact the accounting for all of the stamps were in those days, especially when it represented human calculations ... as it was long before any computer system was invented!
Die cut self adhesives water based stamps rule the Post Officers in Australia and our kiloware is full of these stamps but we can still get them off paper without to much trouble. Accept 2009 Corrugated Landscapes & 2009 Micro Monsters.
All issues still have lick & stick water based gum stamp with real perforation still. We do our part in using these stamps as everything we send out has a very recent, older style stamp on it.
We receive a lot of emails thanking us that we do not use self adhesive stamps. We break up over a sheet of letter rate stamps per week and with the drop in the Aussie Dollar about a sheet of international stamps per month as well.
With international stamps we have taken to using 2 stamp sets of lick & stick even though it is 60c above mailing rate. So all out goers get a international Post $2.60 stamp & a letter rate 60c stamp. Nice to send out a set to international people. Makes the mailing have a hard to get set of lick and stick on it. One way to help that mailing cost.
