I am wondering if anyone might be able to identify the country for this stamp. Although it has "Annas" it is not your typical Indian stamp unless it is from a region of India.

The I.E.F. probably refers to an Expeditionary Force. Although my late father indicated that the SG catalogue number was SG-1, the album page omitted to include a country name.

Another stamp on this page mentions "Vingt Paras" which an earlier poster dealing with a similar unknown stamp, accredited to Turkey or, in the period of this stamp, the Ottoman Empire.

Would just like clarification if any member can help.

In your SG, check Iraq, Issues for Mosul. Yours should be #1.

I.E.F. stands for Indian Expeditionary Forces. In my SG Stamp Catalogue Part 1: British Commonwealth, this stamp is listed under the heading Iraq. II. Issues for Mosul. British Occupation, and is indeed SG1, the surcharge being on a Turkish Fiscal stamp.
A note of explanation says: A British and Indian force occupied Mosul on 1 November 1918. As the status of the vilayet was disputed, stocks of (the earlier) "Iraq in British Occupation" surcharges were withdrawn in early 1919 and replaced with (SG) Nos. 1/8 (showing the surcharge POSTAGE I.E.F. 'D' and x numbers of annas).

As long as 22crows has told almost the whole story, I'll just add that the 'D' refers to one of the seven of India's expeditionary forces. As you might guess, the forces were identified by letters, from A to G.

Force D was in Mesopotamia.

Many thanks for the prompt information. That explains why the loose sheet was between Iraq and Ireland! I have a number of Iraq stamps with "In British Occupation" overprinted so will make a suitable note regarding Mosul as suggested by both responders.

Just in case it is not clear, the stamps with In British | Occupation running vertically were general "Iraq under British Occupation" issues, and not limited to Mosul.
