Someone told me that if you use a hand held hole punch and very slightly round off the rectangle holes on Scott Specialty Pages, the pages will fit better and are less likely for tear out when using the album. Supposedly the punched pages don't bind as easily and don't split at the corners of the holes since the corners have been eliminated.
The old technique for stopping a split in a material extending was to drill a hole at the end(s) of the split. Same principle here I should think. Makes sense.
I found that keeping the pages firmly pressed together by either keeping the binder filled with enough pages or using some spacers in between pages helps with tearing. Scott makes those filler strips but you can easily make your own.
