The forum is currently discussing Canada's Ugliest stamp. I came across this posting from Design Canada which readers may find interesting:

Well that list is someone's own opinion - mostly newer stuff. No classics, or even the the bluenose, are shown.

There are a couple of stamps in that group I don't mind, but, in my opinion, they left out a lot of stamps that would cx\ertainly beat those in that url. Some that are in the listing I wouldn't even consider at all.

As BeeSee stated, the Bluenose isn't listed and, that particular stamps is rated as one of the best Canada has issued in all time.

No, it leaves a lot to be desired but, thanks lorddenning for posting this.

Interesting. Are they the top 25 selling stamps ? top 25 as voted by.... ? I agree with a couple (Grizzly Bear & Fish Resources) but then again only my personal preference as I like Engraved Stamps.

These appear to have been picked by graphic artists and designers, not stamp collectors. As a collector of Canadian stamps, none of the above would be in my top 25 - mine would all come from the pre-WWII era of beautifully engraved stamps.

I have one of those stamps, the $1 1951 fishing resources, otherwise I would not bother with any of them. Just like old stamp collectors, the classics are the best, and most interesting.

Opinion is right, & not a good one either! The best in my opinion is the Globe issue of all of the British Empire!

"These appear to have been picked by graphic artists and designers"....that is probably why we get so many boring stamps now, (like the Chinese years, the flag and diamond jubilees issues, the artist etc...) forcing Canada Post to multiply the formats to compensate. That is an opinion, based on personal preference...
