The Marker Money has been seen many times on the forum, but have we looked into the work of the Stamp Butcher? You know... the postal machinery that scrapes off half of that special commemorative. The scissors that cut off perfs. A few recent examples:   |

I have recently got a beautifully franked cover that was shredded by machinery. I wonder how it happens? |

I ask everyone I buy from to put the stamps at least half an inch away from the right side of the envelope. That seems to take care of the problem! Peter. |

I've found them shredded even when they were inches from the end of the envelope. |

This example can't be blamed on the Post Office... the sender, while obviously well meaning, used scissors to separate the stamps, resulting in butchered perfs:  |

Many years ago I sent off some covers for Inauguration Day cancels. They all came back with scraped stamps.
That was the last time I wasted my time and money. Sort of sad but that's reality. |
