Two palettes of two Slovenian painters:

Matev¾ Langus (1792 - 1855) was one of the most prolific Slovene painters in the 19th century - a painter of frescoes and religious pictures. Stylistically, as well as bourgeois portraitist. On stamp: Self-portrait.
Jo¾e Tominc (1790-1866) studied in Rome. The work of Tominc consists of religious images, one landscape, individual portraits and adult and children portraits. On stamps is his painting: Family Moscon from 1829.

Painted Beehive Panels. In the second half of the 18th century beekeeping in Slovenia made significant progrees. Beehives at that time were horizontal and mostly made of wooden boards fixed together. The beehive fronts were often decorated. The first examples of painted beehive appeard in the mid-18th century continued to be decorated until the beginnig of the 20th century. Themes of paintings differ greatly. The early paintings depict religious themes. Themes of later paintings during the golden ages of this unique form of Slovenian folk art (1820-1860) were more of a secular nature, depicting satirical scenes, animals, fairy-tales, etc.

450th Anniversary of the First Printed Book in Slovenia. Primoz Trubar is the author of the first two printed books written in the Slovene language. In 1550 he published Cathechismus and the Slovenian language learning manual Abecedarium. With his pioneering work Trubar laid the foundations for Slovene literature and provided the language norms for written Slovene.
