At least we can feel relieved that the US Postal Service has not felt the need to sell advertising on US Postage Stamps (yet):

Quote:
So far, there's been no effort by the Postal Service to entice Nike or McDonald's to sponsor a general circulation stamp featuring a swoosh or the golden arches.

When I ran Courser's suggestion by U.S. Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders on Tuesday, he said stamp ads aren't on the radar.

"That's not something that we're doing," Saunders said. And, it's not in any plan either, he said.

But what about the McRib? Don't we want to see a stamp with THAT on it?
(I've never tried it, would seeing a stamp with an image, encourage me to stop by and try it?) Maybe it could get the USPS out of debt, or are they now.....

How about....Tang, Space Food Sticks...
Nostalgic advertising? Anyone remember Creepy Crawlers?
I would think now a day, there would have to have a LOT of warnings, because didn't you have to bake them, then there would be the fear of burning, or and eating! Rubic Cube, Rocken Sockem Robots, (too violent?),

Seems to me that doing things like using Disney characters on stamps while the movie was still in distribution (i.e DVD sales) already crossed that line.

McDonalds Monopoly stamps that the recipient of the mail could peel off and win a free breakfast sandwich with would be cool

I'm rather at a loss for words...
I don't think McDonalds or other fast food chains need to place ads on stamps and I would guess that the company would not contribute to the cost of the stamp.
I suppose the revenue the USPS would collect from a McRib or Whopper or White Castle Slider stamp could be substantial (maybe).
I would prefer to not use my mail to advertise bad food that has made us a nation of obese people. I do eat bad food, I just don't want to advertise it!

I agree about Disney stamps being advertisement, but at the same time it may interest a younger generation into stamp collecting along with super heroes (which are not exactly advertising)
As for a redeemable stamp/coupon for a sandwich would not appeal to me as a collector. I would want the sandwich.

Don't forget we have had a few stamps that could be considered "advertising" stamps to some folks, most notably the Hershey's Kiss:
