From what I can see the Minnesota State Fair is now a DPO... Can anyone tell me when the post office began? It had to be at least 100 years ago...
From the Minnesota state fair site on July 28...

During the State Fair, a branch of the Post Office is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily during the fair in Visitors Plaza, T23 on the State Fair map.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but that is a UPS store, not USPS. Looks like they'll be selling stamps though. |

That's why I'm thinking there is no more cancel for the fair. I'm sure you can buy stamps for more than face value there!

There's a new Postal Bulletin due out later this week. No pictorial postmarks for the end of August have yet been published there, so if there is a special postmark for the Fair, it will likely be carried in the next edition of that publication.
I've seen a few media announcement about previously unpublished pictorial postmarks from various locations across the US, but per regulation, they eventually have to be included in the Postal Bulletin so that customers desiring the pictorial cancel can have ample time to order it if they so desire. |

I have a cover with a state fair cancel from 1908 I think. It would be a shame of the practice ended. |

Sorry to say, but the 08/22/2013 Postal Bulletin is not announcing any pictorial cancels for the Minnesota State Fair. |

wt1, you're right. I was at the fair today and I met a very apologetic UPS worker where the post office was who told me the postmark is no more. Two other people were looking for cancels while I was there. This will be the first time in 28 years I didn't get a cancel :( I think the first postmark is 1901. |

After asking around at the fair including the folks at the NALC booth I found out it was a Post Office management decision to not be at the state fair. I heard quite a few stories about workers at the fair having to take buses to get to the nearest post office. |
