Here's a little known piece of post office trivia I never knew before ... although the US Post Office used rubber bands as early as 1907 it didn't see standard use (to replace twine) until 1967 and today the USPS is recognized as the world's biggest user of the item:
Years ago on my walks around my neighbourhood I kept finding rubber bands and this went on for some time. I continually picked them up and, believe it or not, I still have a small ball of them sitting right behind me. It didn't take me long to figure out that the postman that we had at the time was removing the bands from his sorted bundles and tossing them along the street. When he went to another route it stopped.
When I was around 10 years old I stole a rubber band. My friend called after me as I walked away, and I just ignored him, pretending I did not hear him. It scarred me for life.
Smauggie I'm shocked! WT1 that's really neat and I also used to find rubber bands all over in my town too and never knew where they came from...until just now!
