How did the reporter figure his math . The stamp sold for $900,000 but now this new find is worth $3,000,000 somebody needs to explain how a one of a kind stamp gets valued at 900,000 and when a second one is found it now jumps to 3,000,000.I think it would be worth less and it would lower the value of the first stamp......MORE STAMPS = less price . |

It looks like they're not 100% sure that they have the rare stamp. Finding another copy of this rare stamp will not result in its price going down if there are more potential buyers/collectors than there are copies of this stamp available. |

Actually there are already two known, but one is in a museum and cannot be sold. The other was traded a few years ago for the C3a plate block. |

The one that Mystic traded for the C3a plate block was valued at 3 million because that was the presumed value of the plate block. This is if I am remembering correctly. |

I'm pretty certain that it didn't check out. I hope I'm mistaken but I just recently was talking about this very stamp a few days ago with my wife. She Google searched it and found that that it was a common grill type (that escapes me at the moment) and that the value of the stamp in question was all of a $100. US. Again I hope I am mistaken as I always hope I'll find a sleeper but know that it's almost an impossibility but the chance is there. |

I_Love_Stamps, This was in another thread some time back--it wasn't a "Z" grill. Talk about "Finding a sleeper", in the August 19th. issue of Linn's Stamp News is a article about someone finding a Canadian Large Queen, Scott #32, 2-cent Green on Horz. Laid Paper---Only the third one known, in a circuit book (APS circuit I guess) valued at $200,000.00 in Scott Specialized ( in italics). If it goes to auction, it could surpass that. The article states its was purchased for a "very modest cost" from the sales circuit book. |

And everyone wonders why I like to go to all these different flea markets. A fantastic find alright and usually the type that most people can only dream about. Chimo Bujutsu |

The article is from last year, and has long since been resolved. The APS responded to the article with "don't bother sending the stamp to us, it's not a 'z' grill". As it turns out, the man did not understand there were multiple grill types, and thought he had a great rarity.
As for the $3m estimate - it's based on the fact that the only available Z-grill was traded by Mystic to Bill Gross for a block of 4 C3a (inverted Jenny stamp), which he paid $3million for at auction.

At least, they got some free publicity for their efforts. There are some finds that sometimes get no publicity or catalogue recognition for some time for their efforts. However, it allows those that find out first a chance to get ahead of the crowd. |
