Hi, I'm new to the forum and have questions about some Chinese stamps that I recently acquired. Any help would be gratefully received. They were sold as 1949 $3,000 green stamps from North-East China, NE259 in the Gibbons Catalogue. Since buying them I have come across a reference to these stamps having been reprinted in the 1950s. Apparently there are subtle differences which are identified in the specialist catalogues, but I don't have any of those. So my questions are a)how do I tell original from reprint and b)what value has the reprint (I can return if I want but it would be useful to know value before I make a decision because these are nice looking stamps.) Kind Regards, Ian.
welcome SANDGROUNDER ,as STALLZER posted its better if you post a scan . We only guess that your talking about the Lantern and Gate of Heavenly Peace issue .If that's the stamp then you need to check out the ornament on the lantern base. On the original ,it is a full oval, on the reprints only a partial circle .....better to show a scan and someone can confirm what you have .
And if they are reprints are you able to say what their CV is? I believe the specialist catalogues do show reprint values - my Gibbons' Stamps of the World does not!
