Here's a walk back into pop music history: Helen Reddy.

It seems the US Postal Service is going to "unveil" a new pictorial postmark for the musician on August 19, 2013, with the postmark being available on August 26, 2013.

Quote:
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is issuing a special pictorial postmark to help the City of West Hollywood proclaim August 26, 2013, as "Helen Reddy Day" in recognition of the singer's contributions to women's equality. The date coincides with the 93rd Anniversary of the 19th Amendment being incorporated into the U.S. Constitution, giving women the right to vote.

Helen Reddy?
Isn't she the one who was "momma" on The Carol Burnett Show?

I would guess people under the age of .... hmmm.. 30 (?) doesn't even know who she is.. I think she was a "one hit wonder", but don't yell at me if she's had a ton of top hits LOL.... The Devil Went Down to Georgia? Hmmm... A song about someone getting shot in Georgia? I outta look it up I suppose!

I guess we aren't going to SEE what it looks like until that date...
What's a pictorial postmark?

No. "Momma" on the Carol Burnett Show was played by Vicki Lawrence.

Back to Helen Reddy...

You're probably right. I was about 15 at the time of her popularity, so that's why I am aware of her music. Helen Reddy is famous for several mid-1970s hits, the one in particular that has caused this special pictorial postmark to be issued is for her hit "I Am Woman" which according to the YouTube video posted below was adopted as the theme song by the United Nations for their 1975 International Women's Year:

Still alive. A couple of quotes from various news releases about Helen Reddy Day:

Quote:
[Helen Reddy is] one of the very biggest pop stars of the 70s (now in her early 70s) back out and about after a decade of retirement in her native Australia...she still looks good and sounds GREAT...

Quote:
[Helen] Reddy is also known for her service as a former Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the State of California.
