Ok, for as long as I have been writing letters (and notes in school) I always seem to forget something and will add a little amendment to the end of my note and start it with PS.

This begs the question What does these two letters really stand for? I have heard a few different possibilities but none really quite work. So I ask the smartest people I know this: What does PS mean? Thank you kindly.

OK OK...lol This question isn't as dumb as it sounds. I asked because this question popped up in a dinner conversation early last week and I really didn't have an answer right off but everyone else apparently did! I heard it was an abbreviated French word and a few other suggestions that now, apparently were not correct. Thank you both for the info.

I also remember it being referred to as Post Salutation when I was a kid. I'll bet different generations call it different things.

P.S. is from Latin Post Scriptum and it means something you add to a letter after you have signed it.
Gilles Le Timbre

P.S. it is same abbreviation in English or French

PS stands for Postal Stationery. It means something which most stamp collectors add to their collection as an afterthought. In French it is 'Entires'.

Although it's seldom used anymore, don't forget there's also "P.P.S." representing an additional post script after the first "P.S." was concluded.
