Does anyone else use the American Heirloom album? What are you thoughts about it?

68W................. If you do not already have an album, I strongly urge you to research what all is available and to solicit pros & cons about them from the Forum. When I got back into the hobby I was surprised by two things........ how inexpensive stamps were on ebay, and how expensive good albums were in comparison. Of course the "album" is the backbone of most collections, and will be with you for a long time. Soooo, its selection is most important. |

IBFS, I am relatively new to forums but I will certainly do a bit more searching before I create a new topic. Sorry about that!
Thanks for the advice mobilman44. I use an heirloom album now. I was just curious what other (more experienced) collectors thought about it. |

Like mobilman44 stated research stamp albums thoroughly before you dive in. If you use the search function in the navigation bar and search for Heirloom album you should get a lot of good posts on the subject.
Having said that I use one and enjoy it's layout however it's not my primary album. |

As I indicated in other threads, I use the Mystic Heirloom 3-Volume US Stamp Album. Based on its price point, I am satisfied with it, although some criticize the lightweight pages and flimsy binders. What I do appreciate is the fact that it is easy to scan the pages I want to modify/change in order to provide spaces for stamp varieties that the album failed to include.
Of course, depending upon how basic or advanced your collection is there are other alternatives that include a lot more detail, albeit at considerably higher cost. |

I have used the Mystic Heirloom binders for USA stamps and the Mystic Voyager binders for WW stamps for about ten years and have been happy with both. None have failed and would be inexpensively replaceable if one did fail. I make my own pages and three-ring binders are easy to use.
This procedure keeps my USA stamps in green binders and my WW stamps in blue binders for quick identification. Talk about OCD!

I use the Mystic, but I modify it heavily. There's a thread on this board reviewing a lot of different stamp albums. I'll try and find the link. |

Reference was made in an earlier post about the Mystic Voyager Worldwide Album. If I'm not mistaken, the album is pretty much just ruled pages so that you can mount any stamp from any country any way you want. Is that correct? Are the pages titled by country? Is this a good way to mount a myriad of stamps from various worldwide countries for those who only do not make worldwide collecting a specialty? |

Hi, May I add................. When one starts (or in my case gets back in) the hobby, one has no idea how deep they will get into it and how long it will be a hobby. Is it a passing fancy, or is it a lifelong pleasure?
In my opinion, an album(s) can be the backbone to the collection. If one has the funds, I urge them to do full research and get the best they can afford. If money is a problem, do the best you can.
The thing is, if you become unsatisfied with that first album, and stay in the hobby, sooner or later you will get a better one and have to go thru the "love/hate" process of relocating all your stamps........... I speak from experience. |

I sort of customized mine a bit. I had a few pages changed (Thank you Andy!) and put the first volume in a lighthouse binder & slipcase. I also truncated the Vol.I. to an arbitrary date of 1979-ish and added the BOB stuff to the back portion of the binder. It works swimmingly! I only use that album to keep track of my Washington/Franklin (1908-1920) and started to fill in the other pages with duplicates I ended up with after buying a few old collections. So I now have 2 collections in essence. My point is that you can sort of tailor your albums to better suit your specific needs. I also have the 2 volume Harris Statesman albums that I think I may put up for auction. It's pretty much new and I think there are only 2 or 3 stamps in it. |

Thanks for the input everyone. So far, I like it very much. And with the page modifications located in another thread, I am sure that I will like it even more.
Stamp collecting is a lifelong hobby for me and I am sure that down the road I will get another album that is more advanced. I just wanted to know what more experienced collectors thought of this particular album.
Thanks again for the input! |
