A news release dated 09/13/2013:

https://liteblue.usps.gov/news/link...news16s1.htm

http://about.usps.com/news/national...pr13_070.htm

Here's the link for the auctions. Much of the material in this group are books and the like, but there are a few stamp proofs available as shwon in this example, however, there is a reserve on the item as well (not sure what that is) but since other proofs on the site are going for $200 to $300, I assume it's somewhere in that neighborhood.

It is interesting that the USPS is only applying the token $1.25 for shipping.

I think the USPS is just "getting their feet wet" to see how the auctions go to begin with. If they do not command the kind of prices they are anticipating, it may be that only less desirable items will be auctioned through this means; on the other hand, if one or two people want a specific item bad enough, who knows?

I think it is a great idea for the USPS. I can not count how many times I would try to get the USPS catalog and have delays or never available. Hey it is the changing times but I think it would be a great way for buy it now items. I had just checked some of the items and they are selling very well.
Kind of a idea that makes one say "Duh, why didn't we do this earlier?"

Has anyone been monitoring the USPS auctions and how high some of the proofs have been bid up to? Here's a 09/22/2013 news article addressing the very subject:

The final sale of USPS "special auction" items are shown at the link below. It would seem the most prized item, the $2.40 20th Anniversary Moon Landing Stamp Proof from the PMG Collection sold for a whopping $2,850.00, with 41 bids, with other proofs going from just over $1,000.00 to just under $1,280.00.

What do stamp collectors think? Is that a fair price for such exclusive items? Did the USPS do well selling via ebay? Or would the USPS have been better off consigning such inventory to a private auction firm?

Is there a way to find out all the items from this sale, and/or see who won these auctions?

Well the store is no longer active as you get nothing. Maybe they gave up.
