A high resolution, say 600dpi, scan of the object will determine if it is genuine or not. We know exactly what the genuine looks like with the help of watermark's mouth-watering proof & other hi res scans on the net. How about these to make you drool & want to give up -

The thick border around the item in question is not found on the genuine article. I don't need to be an expert on this issue to notice that.

In the case of paper, my Gibbons Red catalogue has 3 listings for the stamp. #4 on laid paper, #9a on thin wove paper & #14a on medium hard wove paper, the latter two only listed as used

I thought this stamp did not exist on wove paper, only laid. That's why there is no Scott #6.

Let me step in here a moment- Even the best stamp of this design that money can buy and that mangled one would have still came from the same press no-matter the condition. I say it's a fake and a really bad one at that. Look at the numerals and framelines.. I know, I just realized this is an old post because Lorddenning hasn't attacked me yet...

I did send the stamp to Greene Foundation and, in their opinion, it is a fake. It is interesting to have as a curiosity piece though.

Oh snap, I was wrong.....Too bad that the wonderful human being is not here to rub it in. My fingers were crossed for you Rabbit. For the record, I completely missed that it was a pence issue.

But Brian did make me laugh.

It is practically in the DNA of USA Americans to not be overfond of lords and lordliness.
