A few days ago I bought an item off e-bay and promptly paid for it using PayPal. Today, checking the status, I see that the item payment status is "Payment Unclaimed". I sent an e-mail message to the seller and get another message;

"Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain hotmail.com by mx4.hotmail.com."

This is a new one for me. I suspect the seller has issues with either hotmail, paypal or e-bay.

Yes, you are right - the seller has a problem with one of the three - most likely Paypal - but could be any of the three. I would suggest you give it a week or so, and then contact Paypal for a refund.

Paypal is pretty good about this - in my own experience.

If the payment is unclaimed [never seen that before at ebay, never seen the icon even!] then it means it has not been taken from artlaunier's account.
As a precaution, I would cancel now and await correspondence from the seller.

Paypal is a beautiful thing if you're the buyer, it's pretty hard to lose your Money. I've never heard of that either Art.

The message from hotmail I think means it was blocked as spam - faulty filter. I've seen it before.

Have you messaged him through ebay - bought it "off ebay" could be taken either way so maybe you bought it "outside ebay?"

The Paypal issue means his account is not set up correctly. Either he linked the wrong email address to it or is still unconfirmed.

The seller will know soon enough he/she has a problem. BTW, how many feedbacks, etc. did they have?

My experience earlier this year involved a seller who had been around awhile and had accidently messed up his connections to Paypal/Ebay.
