Just sorting through a pile of stamps, as we do. Came across these two from Bhutan.. The pic does not do them justice. The image is 3D, it actually has the appearance of depth in it. I don't have the catalogue out of the library to cover Bhutan, so if anyone can add some extra info, it would be much appreciated. If anyone has other holographic stamps, I would love to see themn too. Steve

Steve, Bhutan is a kingdom in the Eastern Himalayas. Here are a couple of their 3-D souvenir sheets from 1969. |

Very interesting topical! I wonder how many countries have issued holographic stamps. I do have some of the US holographic stamped envelopes. There are bound to be around somewhere. I'll look for them. |

I've seen a few of those and they are rally cool! Thank goodness they don't fit into any of my collections. I don't need the extra pressure. |

In 1992, Canada issued a holographic stamp with the Space Shuttle hovering over earth. The Canadarm is prominent in the hologram with it fully opened at the top of the Space Shuttle.

Thanks for the info, Stampaholic. They are a bit thick and the ink wouldn't stick to them, when cancelled. Steve |

The Bhutan 3-D stamps aren't really holographic, but done with layers of plastic. What appears to be a prismatic textured layer on the face gives them a 3-D effect. They don't have gum and are thick and stiff and not very usable as postage stamps. |

David, I have an "Official Millennium Keepsake" from Canada. In comes in a tin with a metal token inscribed Canada Post 2000 with a dove in flight. There are also three souvenir sheets in the tin, all with a dove, one of which is holographic and changes from 1999 to 2000 when moved. |

Well how about that. The post for this comment has been removed!
As I already stated above, the Bhutan stamps are not holographic. It's a lenticular or prismatic effect.

Modern:
I forgot about the Millennium tins... they mush have sold 100 000 of them! But they are still in demand. My employer, at the time, would send me to the post office to buy 100 stamps for company mailouts. I was buying 25 of the minisheet of four self-adhesive holographic stamps, and they got used up on commercial mail!
