The copy that came to light in 1990 was sold at Prestige Auctions in 2005 for $AUD60,000 plus costs (matching 10s sold for $AUD30,000). Link here: http://www.prestigephilately.com/ca...ctionnum=115

While the stamp just sold at Seigel was creased, the original copy is creased also, but less so.

I know the world economy in 2005 was much stronger, I'[m sure the relatively low price of this sale would be of concern. It could also reflect the location of the ale, if it were me I would have headed straight to Prestige who have an excellent success rate in rare material.

64 IDGAF----agree with you that the buyer knowing the market for that stamp in Australia could of purchased it to return home and use it as a lead item in their own auction. Hours before the auction it was listed at a opening bid of $9,500.00 ,that giving time for a bunch of overseas phone calls and line up interest with their own buyers. It will be interesting to see if it pops up on the front cover of a auction catalog downunder.
