I finally got a smart phone. I know I am a bit behind. I see Scott's offers an ap for the phone. I was thinking about downloading the WW Classic and the US Specialized. I decided to see what anyone says about this before I spend the $60.00. I was also wondering do I have to renew this yearly?

Personally, I would prefer to put the $60 towards buying a good pair of 2 to 3 years old printed copies.

Terry, My specialized is 2012 and my classic is 2010 which is fine for at home, but I thought the ap might be nice when I am at a show, meeting or surfing on the computer at work when I really should be working, (like right now). Pat |

Is the ap still only Apple-based? Personally I would love an android-based version of the Scott catalogs that I could use on my Amazon Kindle. |

Yes, it would. Depends how fast your phone loads pages. My iPhone 3GS is slow enough on internet downloads to be exasperating. Not sure how it would handle Scott apps.

I've used the Classic Catalogue on both the iPhone and iPad. Good news is you can buy the catalog in segments. Bad news is you have to buy the catalog in segments instead of all at once. Which means you probably would want to download the segments you need when you are have a wireless connection. But because Scott has split up the catalog into reasonably small segments, I doubt that one would think any individual segment took too long to download. Once downloaded, they display quickly.
In terms of display. If you are using an iPad, you see an entire page. On an iPhone, you see a page column. (The apps are essentially repurposed PDFs.)
The Scott app is currently iOS-based although Amos is certainly aware of the interest by Android users. |

1840 to 1940, If I understand you when I pay the 29.95 for the 2014 Classic catalog I only get a segment of it? I want the whole thing. My other question is once I download it do I have to renew it yearly? I played with the phone, it is $90 for the classic and 60 for the specialized to buy all the parts. Wow, I think I will pass. |

My understanding is once you pay for a part, it is yours. I did buy one part of the 2012 Classic Specialized and I can still view/download it even though the 2014 is out.
The online is definitely not cheap, although less expensive than the hard copy. I think the best candidates would be collectors who only need one part or for whom the portability of the online version is paramount.
Sometimes these things fall into your lap. I received a $100 Apple Store gift card as part of a computer purchase and so my 2013 Classic Catalogue was essentially "free." I wouldn't have bought it otherwise since I don't really need current pricing. |
