Is the Friedrichshafen postmark on the C39 18.5.30? My eyes are not great and the pic is a little to small to make out.

Kenneth Weiss, what I know is that the LZ-127 departed Friedrichshafen, Germany on May 18th, 1930 for Seville, Spain, and then to Brazil. It arrived there on May 22nd, and then on to Lakehurst NJ. It was then on to Spain and home again on June 6, 1930. Normally on covers from this flight to the US, I see it backstamped Lakehurst, but I can't make out the backstamp on yours. It is possible it was off loaded in Brazil and then made it to NY, via ship. It also may be that the final destination was Brazil, which would make more sense.

The other question I have is the stamp, of which some fakes were produced by using a genuine c37 with an added fake overprint. I am no expert on them, so I cannot say for sure, but it certainly looks genuine from here. Frost adds a value of about $400 to a cover with a C39. Hopefully a zeppelin guru will chime in on this. Nice cover!

Thank you so much for the information. I appreciate the effort to clarify this. I couldn't figure out the 2 address situation and the stamping. I've got a couple of other flown Zeppelin covers which I'll post. I think one is German and the other a block of 4 US C18 FDC which has several stamps on it. Thanks, again ... Ken

Oh, brother, I can't seem to find the other German cover with a C41 on it. I forgot if I sold it or not. I bought these over 30 years ago, and I just can't place it. I'll look around see if I can find it.. at least I did track down the C18 cover, and posted it a few minutes ago.. Thanks, again for the info.. Ken

The Sieger catalog number for the 1930 South American Flight from Friedrichshafen to Pernambuco is 57C. Catalog value for a letter franked with the 4RM zeppelin with "1. Sudamerika Fahrt" overprint is 550 Euros.

The sender was just trying to make sure it went on the Zeppelin on its flight to Brazil, and then for it to eventually get back to himself in New York. The Brazil address was not really needed.
