Stamps On Stamps

Brazil 1957

Stamp collecting, designed and engraved by Pierre Gandon, and issued by France on December 14, 1963 to publicize Philatec'64 in Paris, Scott No. 1078, Y&T No. 1403. This stamp was one of a multicountry omnibus issue. Note that the stamp in the tongs resembles Pierre Gandon's "Jacob wrestling the Angel," issued earlier in 1963, Scott No. 1054, an image of which was previously posted in the Art on Stamps thread here.

It is a German issue for 50 years to honor 'The day for stamps'
issued 1986. The stamps are sinc with the sequence on the big stamp.

It's great to see so many SOS, a fascinating aspect of stamp design. I like the way they combine the old and the new.

As a noob at SCF (hi everyone), I'd like to make my first post in this topic, so here goes: SOS from Thailand.

The stamps that feature in these SOS are from the first publicly available stamp issue in 1883 from the newly created Siam postal service in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V, who is pictured on the stamps).



In 2008, these stamps were featured in issue 849, commemorating the 125th Anniversary of Thai Postal Service. (Siam finally became Thailand in 1949).



The first featured stamp in the SOS set above is printed with a foil/holographic method, I am not sure of the exact technique. Unfortunately it doesn't scan very well. I think Thailand Post did this to highlight the technical advances they have made in 125 years. There are more SOS from Thailand, but these are the only ones that I own from both issues.

Thanks fifia, you have a fantastic collection of stamps on stamps. The Apollo landing above is my favourite just because of the historic moment, but your Deutsche Post stamps have the most interesting design I think. I like your items featuring a stamp from one country on a stamp of a different country - a subtopic of this great topic!

Sorry, but I have no examples of these originals in my collection: Zurich stamps of 1843, engraved, and issued by Switzerland on February 26, 1943 for the centenary of the country's postage stamps, Scott No. 287, SG No. 430. Note the horizontal red lines (included for security reasons?) in the stamp's background.

Just checked my stamps. Do not have these Swiss stamps. Maybe
rod222 checks this posting. He is an expert on burelage.The word for security on stamps. Concerning the red lines on the stamp.
