The first set of Israel was issued on May 16, 1948, two days after the establishment of the state. It is a set of nine stamps depicting old coins from the period of the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judea. The name "Israel" is not appear on the stamps since, in the time they were printed, the name of the new state was not yet determined (The proposals for the name were: Eretz Israel, Israel or Judea), hence the inscription "Hebrew Post" (Doar Ivri) in Hebrew and Arabic was written on them. Several SS's and stamps issued by Israel show the "Doar Ivri" stamps: To publicize the "Jerusalem '73" stamp exhibition, a set of three SS's was issuedon March 25, 1974.
