I visited my local post office and they (finally) had the SpongeBob display up with about 40 or so cards in it (only the two designs previously posted, though.) I picked up a couple, but at the same time it was easy to see that unless your kid is a SpongeBob fan or the parent/guardian knows about the promotion through Nickelodeon or the USPS, the display doesn't really adequately explain what they are giving away and why. It may be that the majority of these cards are going to wind up in collectors hands rather than the intended target audience (i.e. teaching kids to write and mail a postcard.)

I'm going to see if our local post office has this. If not we have a philatelic center in downtown Minneapolis and I might just take a run down there.

This is proving to be a challenge! Called 6 of the smaller post offices around my home, and they are all out. Most claim they only got 10 or so to start with. The medium to large PO's have not seen them yet. You know these probably won't be for sale at KC philatelic branch, as they technically aren't US Post Office
items.
Oh well, there will be a lucrative trade circle on these me thinks.

My local post office had nothing. I'll see if I have better luck at the philatelic center in downtown minneapolis

I stopped by the Woonsocket, RI post office to use their APC and in the process (they were just closing) asked the clerk if they had any SpongeBob postcards. His reply was they hadn't received even a single one!

sdtom, please let me know if you have luck there. I'm going to check my Lake and Minnehaha PO tomorrow, but not holding my breath.

Called the salt mine in KC yesterday afternoon. They had only heard about them from a TV ad. No plans to sell them as far as they know. Got a few small PO's to call today. NOT paying the overpriced ebay prices that I have seen.

I went to a total of 4 post offices and finally found a few left which I took from the downtown branch. I also found two empty displays. If you want a couple let me know and I'll mail them to you.

sdtom: Just curious if you found one, two or all three varieties of the postcards. In my area, the only two I found were the ones with SpongeBob (only); and the one with all of the SpongeBob characters. There's a third one that has two characters shown, but I haven't been able to find that example.

Thanks for the offer Tom, but after all that searching you should hang onto them!

If I find any I'd just give them to my 4 year old to write some Christmas greetings to the family (and one back to us, of course:). I'm not really a modern collector anymore so if I don't find any it's not a big deal.

It's warming up, but still felt too cold to go to the PO today.

I was able to get all three varieties of the card.

Tom,

If your offer still stands, I will gladly take you up on it! We've been looking everywhere and can't find any in our area. I will include a SASE so you don't have to pay postage.

Many, many thanks!
Aimee
