Williamsport, PA Letter Carriers To Carry Hands Free Lights

Apparently, after-dark mail deliveries are becoming so commonplace today that one postal district decided to equip their mail carriers with headband lights so they can deliver after-dark.

According to the article, since the consolidation of postal facilities, all area mail goes to Harrisburg first and then back to areas like Williamsport for delivery, meaning that mail carriers have to start their routes an hour or more later than usual, resulting in after-dark deliveries:

That going to Harrisburg and back thing is absolutely infuriating to people. To mail a letter from Jersey Shore to Williamsport (about 16 miles) used to take a day at longest now it's around 3-5 days! Ridiculous!

You have no idea how dangerous Williamsport has become. It's a place I do not go without safety concerns so they should equip them with tasers (or assault rifles) also.

When I mail a letter to a small town 25 miles away, the letter first goes to Augusta GA (60 miles) then from Augusta to Atlanta (170 miles). Then from Atlanta to Macon (65 miles) and then from Macon to the small town (40 miles) This is lunacy.
