What Is Your Collection "Time Frame"?

Hi,
Just curious here..... what is the time frame for your collection? And, why did you pick that?

My USA collection started out from the 1840s thru 1970, but I recently felt the need to complete the century, so now its thru 1999 - using Scott's Nationals.

The worldwide collection started out from 1840 - 1949, but that clipped off my childhood collecting years of the 1950s, so I recently expanded the collection thru to 1959.

How about yours?

My collecting had been limited to 1840-1940 worldwide but I recently acquired the volume for 1940-1949. If I enjoy filling that one, I probably will go to the mid-1950s which was when I too started collecting stamps as a child.

But it really is arbitrary. If I had the time and space, I would collect more recent issues of favorite countries such as France.

I also have none at this point.

I collect from the 1840's to the beginning of the self-adhesive era. After that it is hit and miss until 2000. Virtually nothing (a few S/S) after that.

The reason is that I am not a big fan of most contemporary stamp designs and self-adhesive gum.

I started collecting US only, then moved on to WW. I was buying anything and everything, but decided to limit myself to WW up to about 1945. This gets me the WWII stamps, but avoids the glut of stamps (esp. CTOs) starting around 1960 or so. My US collection goes to about 2000, but now I only collect definitives after 1935 or so.

One of these days I'll probably trade or sell everything else.

Just recently started collecting both Sweden and Denmark and my initial cutoff was going to be some time in the 1950's (arbitrary). Then I bought a 2007 Facit catalog and saw how beautiful a lot of the later issues are for both countries and decided to move it out further. My most recent cutoff will be around 1999 or so, because that is the newest Scott catalog I have and I can't make a wantlist for anything later.

USA to 1999. I do collect some WW also but since its not my focus right now, I don't have a time frame, just a "country frame".

Essentially, everything in the Scott 1840-1940 Classic Specialized catalogue is fair game.

Passive: 1940-1950? WW
I'm "accumulating" the 1940s, but have no time to actively work on them at present. I do have the Part II (1940-49) and Part III (1950-55) Scott Internationals.

I keep saying that 2000 was my cut-off date, but, newer stamps keep coming my way.

Most likely will; be that way for the rest of my life.

I started WW in 1959 with an Ambassador Album and HE Harris 5&dime packets. I stopped in 1968 and didn't take collecting up again until the mid/late 70's. I now only collect US, mint where affordable, and FDCs (cache & un-cached) to present. Being on a fixed income, filling in the holes is expensive but the hunt is what makes it fun and enjoyable. My wife thinks the annual budget (expenditures) might be excessive and compulsive. (I don't.)

Canada numero uno to 2000 is what I tell myself, but then the Doc Brown part of me says "Roads? Where we're going, there are no roads..." :)

Canadian from 1900 onwards. With the proposed increase in the cost of stamps, I am seriously considering the cut-off point as the end of this year or to collect only singles.

Interesting question. I know some people have the self control to keep within a certain time span.

I don't have that control.

In general, prices keep me from collecting many of the pre-1900 stamps. Pre-1960 stuff I like due to all the engravings. I go light on 1960-1980s, it seems. "Modern" stamps make it into the collection if I like the design/topic.
