I was on ebay Christmas eve and got 3 stamps 184 - 231 and 656 all for under 9.00 including shipping. I have been watching a few since and all have been over 35.00 each. Not those particular stamps though I still think I got a good deal. Or maybe I'm way off and don't know anything about stamp prices. Was just excited and wanted to share my find.

I hope these links work. They have been hinged but I received the 231 and I could not see with the naked eye the hinge mark. So I am hoping is the case with the other 2. And the 656 is off center but I don't have that stamp and that one I could afford.

hmm it says new in the listing, but I think I see where the cancel is, I could probably request my money back. I suppose it wouldn't be worth the $4.00 I paid for it but $4.00 isn't much.

Yes I did see that the 656 wasn't in the best shape but that is one I didn't have and could afford so I got it.

I would say if you filled 3 spots in the book you did fine. In your first post you seemed to be real excited, stay that way. Try to determine why you're collecting and if it is for fun and enjoyment of the hobby you're on the right road. If you're collecting to make money good luck. I've already figured out that there are a lot of people who know way more than I do and will bend every rule. I don't worry much about the hinge mark for example. Once I put it in the album I never see the mark again. When I pass away I know who my album will go to and money isn't an issue.

I agree...but you want to get what you paid for.
The listing for the 184 states....new.
Clearly there is a cancel in the UL....
definately not a $4 stamp....

My comments might sound harsh....but it is true.
I will never downgrade anyones purchases.
carabop posted and asked for opinions on the purchase.
Happy New Year to all...

Oh I like everyone's comments. I won't learn anything if no one makes any comments. It is nice if everyone were to say great job Carabop, but that is not realistic. I don't collect to make money. I collect for fun and don't have a lot of money to spend. Thank you all and Wishing Everyone a Happy New Year!

Hi Carabop,
Stamp collecting is great as long as you go out there and get your treasures. Good or bad. The euphoria is what its about. This community offers so much compared to other forums. The wisdom and most importantly the concern of its members is unsurpassed.
With that being said, stay here with the community and learn as much as you can. Research in the forms of books, internet etc. Get your post count up to 50 quality posts and 14 days as a member and I will gladly send you some free MH stamps that will fill your empty spaces, plus help you learn. In return I would request that you involve as many as you can in collecting stamps. That to me is the most valuable treasure you can share. Respectfully, Gary

I need to find out the exact rule for giving stamps away to members that don't have 50 posts or 14 day as a member. I don't want to break any rules out here.

Thank you Gary. To those that are following this post I did receive the #656 and it does have a hinge thin and it is off center but it looks good from the front and will be great in my album. I won't put it in my mint album though.

Last year I also went on ebay and purchased some stamps that I wanted mint and or used. Some were as expected and good quality and on a rare occasion I bought something that I should have paid better attention to. On the whole however I thought I did well and learned in the process. I tried to use a Scott catalog prices to guide me. I also attended some stamp shows and picked up a bunch of stamps that I wanted since I was a kid...
