Quote: I'd also like to see a lot more postings with visuals from other members' collections. Would be nice to increase the image size limit on the image upload, it's way too low for high resolution photos so people either don't bother or host it themselves. I actually cancelled a couple of threads I was starting when I would get the size limit issue while posting a pic with my phone. 100k is a tiny photo, or a large photo badly compressed... resolutions and image processors are so much better now, we should be able to take advantage of it. |

An increase to even 500k would be a huge step. Even the microsoft photo editing software found on most computers can compress a pic down to that size well enough. If they'd open to 1MB...WOOT! |

500kb is a perfect size for a good quality 1000 pixel long image. 100k was fine several years ago when we were using 1024 res monitors, but it's honestly not really appropriate anymore. |

You can link to images on other sites. You don't need to upload and attach all the time. For example, here is a large image I found on Google Images: |

I enjoy coming here and reading. I learn a lot. I don't go to a lot of the different areas because of what I collect as other have said. Being a newbie I don't always know where to look for things though. I don't know how to put pictures on here. I do like to tell of my stamp finds, but then I think people won't be interested because you all seem to have way bigger collections then I do and my stamps are just your every day common ones. And my collection fits in a shoebox. :o) |

Quote: The Quality of this forum is amazing.
Leadership model I do not think can be beaten!
The quality of images, the tools that can be used posting amazing, the way the thread listings are positioned in their separate forums is a pleasure to navigate.
The rules of the SCF structure have been tested and tested but are still stronger than ever.
The auction area looks to be at a level that others can only dream about.
Thank You SCF. We take what happens behind the scene to much for granted. I do not know a forum of any other kind that has lasted as a quality event as this one has.
I am not the easiest person on SCF to understand more than others but we get there....KGV |

Part of a thread 17th Dec 2013.yakboomer was the only one to comment! It has 254 views. The Australia 2013 100th 1st Banknote issue came as a 60c & $2.60 international post. The stamps from the mini sheet have a variety some blue perf tips on top of the stamps. It is not present on the sheet stamp issues. |

Interesting thread, but I do not agree that the site is boring. I've collected since 1960, at age 10, and never stopped for high school or college. Have collected consistently for 50+ years. I probably need to count up the philatelic links I now have bookmarked as a result of learning about them on the SCF. I'd guess I have between 15 and 20. Every time I visit the site, I generally find something of interest in either the Main Forum or the World Classic Forum. As an aside, I seldom visit the other forums. I enjoy offering advice to the folks either completely new to collecting or returning after being absent for many years. I don't do scanning as I have little interest in "showing off" and doing so will require pulling stamps out of albums. Besides, my primary collection area (Portuguese colonies) is of little interest to almost every one on SCF; altho I did have a good exchange around a year ago about Madeira. I'm still astounded at the size of Floor Trader album cabinets (he posted a picture a while back). My feeling is that SCF is fine as it is; but feel free to keep asking questions. p.s. to Faken: you wrote that everybody uses ebay. I don't; but I do use the APS Stamp Store. |

Climber Steve is a good example of a niche collector. I'd wager most of us are niche collectors in some sense, and there are few collectors of stamps in general. I could be wrong about that though.
The forum is set up to offer the ability to communicate between all levels and types of collectors. That's what drew me here. While I may not find an abu-dhabi stamp collection particular of interest, there are many other posts which I may find informational and entertaining.
So niche guys, keep posting your niche interests! You never know who you're going to share the interest with, or perhaps even spark a non-niche collector into becoming a niche collector like yourself.

Sorry folks But I completely disagree with image sizes. 100KB is plenty big enough for stamp images, you just need the proper software to edit them. There's plenty of free software out there that works fine. Irfanview is one. That's 92.5 KB and PLENTY big enough for detail and grading and stamps are smaller. 500KB is serious overkill and a waste of server space in my opinion. |

Beautiful scan Jkjblue.
The raised embossed areas just jump out at you.
Thanks for showing that. |

I think the board is doing great, myself not knowing all the in behind details or anything hough.
I enjoy posting on here, and my lack of posting is more from upsets in my life than from anything else. Just like an absence at a real stamp club would be also.
The members belonging to this board who post images and comments are not all of the members, and that is quite OK also as this has been at times and information source for many collectors around the world, and not all can or wish to post on here, but do enjoy (I hope) the back and forth of discovery, whether new or brand new, and the sharing possible over the world wide web.
Something like magazine readers who do not all wish to comment on the letters page or stamp club members who enjoy the comraderie and fellowship from other collectors, whatever their special interests at the time.
The fun of buying and the fun of selling are not always shared by all, the skills involved being somewhat different.
Enjoying appreciating beauty in form, art work, design, craftsmanship or skill at disply and all the other things enjoyed by some stamp collectors around the globe is what keeps this hobby going and growing, whether backwards at times or pushing and rushing forwards and onwards.
I keep coming back over and over because something always tickles my interest on here. Thank you all for participating and sharing what you can, and to all for reading and commenting on me, others and the board in real life also. Keep it coming! |
