In a distracted moment, I got to wondering: what Canadian stamp depicts the place closest to where I live. And here it is:

The Cornell Mill in Stanbridge East, QC. Just 21 Km. away.
How about you?

Still not sure how to post an image ... and I cannot find instructions.
Can't seem to drag it in here ... a link to a website doesn't work ...
This is when the forum is a little difficult for those of us who are a little lame with technology.

Instead of answering via "Quick Reply" at the bottom, you choose "Reply to Topic" (just above) which is not so quick but has more bells & whistles, one of which is the possibility to download pictures from you computer.

Thanks .. Hopefully this works .. The photo for this stamp was taken about 10 miles from where I live - not exactly a "geographic" spot, I suppose .. but it is documented and the tracks are still there.

Great topic.. for me it would have to be the following:

The Montreal Olympic Stadium is about 15 - 20 minutes from my house. Trying to think of a Montreal scene on a stamp that depicts something closer but for now, the upside down toilet will have to do (Montrealers commonly refer the money-pit known as the Stade Olympique as the "upside down toilet".

Centerstage98: I picked up from a website that this was the image upon which US Scott #295 showing the "Empire State Express" train was taken. It doesn't indicate the location, though. If it's near you, where was it taken ... New York State, I presume?

Edit: I posted this before reading your subsequent comment:

There are two stamps depicting areas that are equal distance from me. The first one is my avatar, 22 km S of me (14 miles) and Post Carling Locks about the same distance West of me.

I do not have either stamp, but live exactly the same distance from President Roosevelt's Little White House in Warm Springs, GA ( Scott 931 ) and the Confederate Memorial at Stone Mountain, GA ( Scott 1408 ).

Very interesting idea.
I am from Slovenia, far away from Canada, but there is a stamp of my town Radovljica and I live very close to picture of my town (I marked with orange spot on cover).

............................................... 500 years of Radovljica

The Radovljica is old medieval town and has about 6.000 inhabitants.
On stamp, postmark and picture is medieval part of town.

Yes, WT1 - that is indeed the photo - the engine was en route to set a speed record that day and Yates, from Syracuse, went out just west of the city to snap it as it picked up speed.

A fuller story is on the site of the Syracuse Stamp Club

This is a great thread .. I need to think a little more about what more stable geographic location is on a stamp closest to my home.

Nice thread! I'm not too far from this spectacular natural beauty, although on the American side, lol.
