Last night I got this in my mailbox.. It was a damaged letter in another envelope with auxiliary markings, scuffs, tears, grime and a rather generic looking "paper-tape" that basically has a checklist of what the issue was. It was damaged and badly. It's a bank statement from clear back in October! At least it got here finally...lol

I wonder what happened to it?

This was inside...

Of this!

ILS, your guess is as good as anyone's! I can not tell how bad the contents are, but I have received them looking the same or worse! Must be that expensive automatic sorting machinery they are using now!

Not that it is surprising that a PO box would catch on fire; but that it happened often enough to justify a rubber stamp be made to use on pieces like this! (At least I think it is a rubber stamp.)

The second scan with the Neopost Postage Meter imprint is from rather old equipment still in use as late as 2014. The indicia is an R3(B) from the Neopost IJ70-80-90-110 series of meters dating back to 2003. Eleven year old postage meter equipment still in use is the exception rather than the norm, especially for a high volume use such as for bank statements and the like.

Jeff I have gotten several pieces of mail like that ,damaged, in the past six moths. I thought about taking it back to the P.O. but I figured it wouldn't do any good. They would have some kind of lame excuse.

Thank you for your interesting replies, I'm always curious about philatelic anomalies and axillary markings and labels.

Jeff,
Not surprisingly, there is a group that collects that!

They are also compiling an online catalog. They might like an addition!

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.
