Have you ever bought anything interesting other than stamps while stamp shopping.
Since most of the stamps I've bought have been at auctions , estate sale and garage sales I have picked up some other stuff.

Bought a folder full of old photo's. They feature a mayor of Buffalo NY from the late 30's. Nobody had any interest. I think many are from the staff photographer or newspaper of the time. FDR, a soap box derby and even a signed Sonja Henie that has got to be one of a kind. It's not a stock studio thing.

Very cool photos stampcrow

We don't have too many auctions or estate sales around here and even if we do they rarely have stamps.

Those are great - if they are likely from a newspaper, I would think there would be some kind of handstamps, datestamps on the back side ...
are there any?
any idea what newspaper?

It was in Buffalo N.Y. Some of the photo's have the photographers stamp on the back. Libby Kahl being one. It seems she was one of the first female newspaper field photographers in the country.

Other pics have marker lines on them like cropping marks. The common subject is the mayor Thomas Henning.
I cannot find any info about an FDR visit to Buffalo. But I framed that one and it hangs in a hallway.
There s also shots with the mayor and wrong way Corrigan, mayor LaGuardia and maybe Truman. My wife doesn't think so. Looks like Truman to me.

Dianne, I've been very lucky at general estate auctions over the past couple of years. Shoeboxes full of old envelopes. Folders full of old pics and other papers. Even boxes full of stamps in glasines and stockbooks. If the auctioneer didn't advertise stamps then usually it's open pickin'.....
