Hello all,

Pardon me if I'm posting in the wrong forum, new here .

I recently stumbled upon an overprinted stamp set I had stored away in a German collection from my early days of collecting. Recently opened it back up because I took it upon myself to start better organizing my German collection. I need some help in identifying if these are the correct Scott numbers for them: 593A-599. Also, do the vales of 1,3,4,5,6,20,42 and 60 not have Scott numbers associated with them?

In addition the Scott book mentions there are numerous counterfeits existing, any way in identifying them? I want to know if they are of any value too; they are MNH. Finally, is it normal for the overprint of the 30pf stamp to be offset as such?

Thanks all in advance!
Matt

Welcome to SCF, Matt!

This set is popular and some of the values are expensive. I don't know what the statistics are, but a large percentage of the stamps in this set on the market are forgeries. I cannot confirm or deny the authenticity of your stamps without the GPS (German Philatelic Society) guide to forgeries, which my club has copies of in their library.

The 1,3,4,5,6,20,42 and 60 Pf values were printed, but never issued, and are listed in the Michel specialized catalogue for German stamps.

I hope we see you around again. Feel free to continue posting pix of your collection!

Brian

Thanks for your reply Brian I will for sure continue to post here; read through some other posts and they have been very informative. If someone has the GPS guide mentioned above, know where to find it or have any more details on how to authenticate these stamps, any info would be much appreciated!
