Someone was talking about duplicates by accident. Recently, I bought a collection lot from a reputable auction house, described as "Taiwan ROC accumulations.....with a Scott value of more than $20,000". I was excited so I bid about 25% of the value and the lot was sold for $1700. I was overjoyed with the good buy. After it was mailed and before I received it, the auction house emailed me the UPS tracking number and the weight of the box. It said that the weight of the parcel was 44 pounds. Immediately I was disappointed with the idea "how can I expect to find anything good in 44 pounds of stamps?". I was right; after seeing what are in the box, to me, it is a box of "junk". There are stamps in grocery store bags, shoe boxes, cigar boxes,..... I just left the boxes in the garage and considered as "took a loss and learned a lesson." The lower two boxes (out of 4 in total) contain the same stamps in 100 bundles and each box contains 102 bondles. So, 102x100x4=40800 stamps x $0.25 = $10,200 Scott value.

What a nightmare accumulation! This is the main reason I won't buy anything without scans even from auction houses. Sadly, there is nothing to do with any of this stuff except leave it in the garage.

I would think a reputable auction house would have better described the lot. I would contact them about returning the lot if they did not describe this acurately.

I agree with pjsstamps as far as description goes. Did the auction house indicate that the lot was for more than 100,000 stamps (which would have given you a good indication of how the value was declared at $20,000)? If I purchased this lot, I would dispute it with the auction house.
