Hi jogil, I saw the waybacktimes article many years ago. I am not the person who posted it. Interesting coincidence we share the same name though. |

Well this stamp is scheduled to be auctioned Oct. 18, 2014 at Eastern Auctions. Thought I would refresh this topic and let you know. |

Thanks Wartermark for reviving this thread. I'm currently going through a huge lot and checking for all the fun varieties. I wish you the best and hopefully since this is the first to surface since 1935 you get a record sale. Truly a find of a lifetime! I think having the SON will bring it extra value at auction.
Now I'm even more excited to keep looking through my current used lot. |

The auction estimate is $300,000 to $400,000...of course I would like it a bit higher... |

$500k figure would be nice. I mean come on there is only three in the world and yours is the only one with a SON. Some rich guy has to just have it for his collection.
I wish you all the best on the auction. |

I was literally thinking about this auction and stamp a couple days ago. This should be getting top publicity as the days wind down and with the extensive forensic work that was done on her I believe it should hammer down at a tidy sum. |

Just have to ask.. Seeing some of your collection that you have posted here and knowing you are a true variety hunter. Are you having any second thoughts about selling? You have so many re entries, watermarked large queens etc... and I know most you have found by doing your homework not just writing big checks. So you find the canadian holy grail sort of speek , I just have to wonder how loud the voices are saying keep it. In my collection it would be like pearls on a pig but you have some great stuff to almost keep her company. Money aside will there be any regrets or is the satisfaction of the hunt enough to last a lifetime. Second question-- you must have another special stamp on your want list and I'm sure you will have a little disposable income to up the stamp budget. Are you going to try and fill any other special void in your collection ? |

I have no regrets about selling it. I will always cherish the memory of finding it. I gave keeping it consideration early on but as I stated earlier I was keeping it in a safety deposit box which made access to limited. I just hope the buyer is a true philatelist and enjoys it as much as I do.
Yes I will use some of the proceeds from the auction to buy a few goodies for my collection. |
