Austrian Stamp Printing Techniques

I agree with you Rein when you say " but from 1963 onwards several stamps with a combined photogravure like the
1963 Olympic Wintergames in Innsbruck"

But they were basically one colour engraved combined
with one or two colour photogravure, no truly multicolour
(4 colour process)photogravure.

Until 1966 when according to this article by the Austrian PTT
(Post Telephone Telegraph) the OeSD bought a 4 colour photogravure press.



Even though the article does not mention an exact date when this
4 colour photogravure press was installed, the 6 value Fruit defintives were issued on 25.11.1966.
Neither does it mention the press manufacturer.
Was it a Rembrandt?

A couple of months prior to that on 28.9.1966 the first really multicolour photogravure combined
with one colour engraving was issued.

So is it possible then that they were printed by one pass
of the old sheet-fed Koenig & Bauer recess press and one pass through this new
(in 1966) 4 colour photogravure press ?

Why not?? But then we have to accept that the photogravure press was sheet-fed as well. Like a Rembrandt...

Just ONE more Giori recess printing for Austria!

I forgot all about that one.

Now what about this one Rein?
Two colour engraved by the National Bank Printer
instead of the Austrian State Printer.

I don't see any bleeding of colours which would indicate
the Giori process but maybe it's due to the similar dark colours
used.

I do not have that stamp, but it looks like a bicoloured one with 2 plates!? Although the hair near the frame seems to be more purple than black....

As far as I can tell this 1974 issue was the only
Austrian stamp printed in 3 colour (ink) recess using the Giori
process on a Goebel printing press.

This Goebel press which was capable of printing up to 3 colours recess and 4 colours photogravure
on one pass appears very similar to the type used by BNAB to print Canadian stamps between 1968 - 1989
