FX42 10c blue excise tax stamp of 1915 with streak or ink drag
probably caused by some debris in the printing plates?

The image looks like stamp damage but is actually the stamp was printed with a streak heading upward from the C in Canada smearing the top frame lines and into the margin.

Looks very much like a gouge to me. Like something fell on the plate and damaged it? Would be nice to find another one to prove it is a constant variety.

Wouldn't a gouged plate be considered an error? It 's hard to believe that such noticeable plate damage would be uncatalogued.??

To me it looks like a slight rip or damage not done when printed..But after it was in circulation..Don't think is is a plate damage or there would have been others.

Possibility of hair or something else on plate and later cleaned off? Also - if damage to paper it must have been done when ink was wet to drag the ink line.
