Mauritus - Nine Cents - A Bogus Issue?

That's...something.

I suspect it was created by someone who was not completely clear that Mauritius stamps were not denominated in cents until 1878, and even then, there was no 9-cent value depicting Victoria.

There were nine-pence issues under the old currency in 1860 and 1872, but in a different design, to much higher production values (De La Rue).

That is a strange piece.

Hi Cjd! I thought that this one should be mentioned in the "Phantom Philately" (although isn't), or some other handbook of the early bogus issues. I have even tried to Google it with the info available from the scan - but, still without any result... possibly Mr. wt1 is more skillful :)
