PoStat4evR, your Jammu & Kashmir postcard is in what the specialists call State B.

The second line of the native (Dogri) inscription developed a sag, which was fixed with a rivet. You can see the head of the rivet above the second line of text, to the lower left of the Sun. In State A, the plate was in its original state, and then began to develop the sag; State B shows the rivet. State A is further divided into Settings 1, 2 and 3, representing the original state, the first half of the second line beginning to sag, and the first half developing a serious droop.

In addition to all that, most if not all States and Settings exist on both wove and laid paper.

Here is State A Setting 1, on wove and then laid paper:

Setting 2, on wove paper:

And finally Setting 3 on wove paper

I only have Settings 2 and 3 on wove paper. They seem to be the scarcest of the four States and Settings: perhaps not surprising, as the plate was giving way.

And for completeness, here is a State B (again), with the rivet head:

In Ed Deschl's India States Postal Stationery Listing, Ed priced State A on laid paper at $US10 unused and $US25 used, on wove paper at $US15 unused and $US25 used, and State B at $US5 unused and $US50 used.

Here's a German Feldpostkarte (Military postal card) that has the Feld overprinted for post-war use. That's what the black box on the left side is covering, but not sure what is covered up on right side if anything. I presume it's post World War II.

Here's two Brazilian Letter Cards:

tonymacg: I was going through some India material last night and came across some postal cards that were 1/4 anna upgraded to 1/2 anna by a "1/2" overprint. The H&G catgalog says there are many types of this overprint. You have any idea exactly how many versions of this card were done? I am assuming that each PO could overprint them (?) or were they done in several central postal offices? These were issued in the early 1900's.

Here is a Jaipur postal card that has a R.M.S. (RAilway Mail Service)cancel. The RMS cancel replaced the TPO cancel in 1881. It (they) can be found on a number of Jaipur and India items. RSO's exist as well. They are the RAilway Sorting Office canels.

Here's a South Korean postal card from 1965. I don't know what the purple box handstamp is for.

I posted this next postal card under the Japanese postal card thread, but anyone know anything about this card below?

While looking through some India for older material, I came across a newer item (1997) from India. This is a Inland Letter Sheet. I like the rough drawing of the ship in the postal slot. What do you think

The Japanese card is from a rice merchant in Kobe (the red inscription at lower left) to Osaka.

The purple stamp is from the Sannomiya post office in Central Kobe.#12288;It's undated, and the significance I'll leave to a Japan specialist.

I find all of these postal stationery postings quite interesting. A lot of the material I obtained from dealer's 'cheapie' boxes. Sometimes though, you do find some surprises.

Here are some items from Colombia I have in my collection.

Chimo

Bujutsu
