This is Jind 1888 Jind State Coat of Arms ovpt. on Br. India 1879 ¼A Vic. caramel on buff postal card (Deschl C9/H&G A11) (12.1cm×7.4cm).

The CoA overprint die is Cowen type II/Deschl type BB and the unoverprinted base card is H&G A1/Lang CA1, issued on July 1,1879, which happens to be the first postal card of Br. India.

The overprinting was done in typography in black ink at India Central Printing Press, Kolkata.

In type II ovpt., the length of inscriptions JHIND and STATE adjacent to the obcordate CoA are 6mm and 5¾mm respectively the height of the letterings is 1mm.

Jind was one of the 6 Convention States of India which used Br. Indian stamps and stationeries overprinted with state name and CoA with names respectively.

This card was issued under Article 3 of the Postal Convention of 1885, signed between Jind State Post by Shamsher Sinh, Head of Jind State Post and Indian Department of Posts and Telegraphs by Frederick Rogers Hogg, Director General of Post Office in India (1870–71, 1873–75 and 1879–87 with intermittent breaks), which was put on effect from July 1,1885 and under Article 8, all Jind stamps and stationeries were valid to be addressed to any place within Br. Indian territ

This is Patiyala 1891 Patiyala State Coat of Arms ovpt. on Br. India 1890 ¼A Vic. caramel on buff postal card (Deschl C13/H&G A13) (12.1cm×7.4cm).

The Patiyala CoA overprint die is Cowen type I/Deschl type C and the unoverprinted base card is H&G A7/Lang CA4 with redrawn CoA, characterized by the flexed tail of the lion and strong left hind leg of the unicorn as opposed to original CoA of Br. India 1879 ¼A H&G A1/Land CA1.

The overprinting was done in typography in black ink at India Central Printing Press, Kolkata.

Postage Rate: The Patiyala state single postage rate was ¼A from October 1,1884 to April 23,1922.

Patiyala was the first Convention State to get into Postal Convention with Br. India Post Office.

This card was issued under Article 3 of the Postal Convention of 1884, signed between Patiyala State Post by Raghbirchand, Head of Patiyala State Post and Indian Department of Posts and Telegraphs by Arthur Upton Fanshawe, Officiating Director General of Post Office in India (1883, 1884–85; later DG during 1887–89, 1890–93, 1895–96, 1897–1902 barring April 1 to June 21,1901), which was put on effect from October 1,1884 and under Article 8, all Patiyala stamps and stationeries were valid to be addressed to any place within Br. This last item is interesting in that it comes from a time when grave robbing of Baltimore's graveyards and potter's fields for area medical schools was a booming business. Those involved were called resurrectionists.

Smithsonian Magazine just published an informative article on this bit of history. If you google "Baltimore grave robbers" it is the first item to appear, I believe.

Here is a 2c Salvadoran similar to erliaz's 3c card on page 52 of this thread. This one has different inscriptions and is intended for domestic usage.

Cuba (U.S. Administration) – Scott #UX2

It's interesting to see the various workarounds that sellers use to sell something like this on ebay. Because, you know, the sale of a postal card issued over a century ago by the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA will presumably benefit a Communist dictatorship in the Caribbean.

I have an obsolete stock certificate of the Cuba Railroad that couldn't be sold on ebay -- despite the fact that it was in New Jersey.

Did ebay reject it? Did you try the stock category or stamps? Oddly enough, stamps of Cuba are rejected in the stamps category, but postcards of Cuba are fine under collectibles.

Western Australia. The card is very small (121×74 mm), but remarkably thick.
