In another thread a couple collectors mentioned that they don't have any February 29th covers. I thought I would show a few of my favorites from my collection.

1892

1896

I have a friend that grew up in the Merriam Park Neighborhood. This is now a DPO. 1904

British Postal Stationary to Germany 1904

1908

This is from my great uncle Ralph to my great aunt Matie when they were very young. They have both been gone for many years. 1912

I collect early U.S. 5 cent rate to foreign destinations so this fills a couple holes in my collection. 1924

This one was found in a shoebox full of very common foreign stamps in old envelopes. I did not need the stamps but when I saw this envelope that had the Austria stamps in it I had to buy the entire box. 1924

1932

Okay, Pjsstamps ... since you posted it I'm going to ask the question!

On the next to the last scanned cover addressed to Investor's Syndicate, what is the reference to the address as being "TRAFFIC STATION BOX 5"? I've never heard the term "Traffic Station" before...is it unique to Minneapolis?

[edit]

Never mind ... this seems to have answered the question:

Wt1,
Great question and I had the grandmaster guru of all that is philatelic thinking for a moment, but of course you answered your own question before I could. It must have been a very short lived branch/station. I only have a couple cancels from there. I did a presentation on Minneapolis Postal History last year and "Traffic Station" was the hardest for me to find for all the stations and branches. I should do some investigating to find out where it was and how long it operated. The branches and stations for Minneapolis cover a very wide area and many suburbs in at least 3 counties.

Pjsstamps:

Minneapolis (Traffic Sta.), Minn.: That must be a tough one. I just checked Jim Forte's postal history website and they show a couple of examples, but they also just reference it as a DPO ... no reference as to dates of operation. Although based on the couple of covers they show, it would seem it was in existence at least in the 1920s and 1930s.

[edit]

Well, at least this establishes when the designation of Minneapolis (Traffic Station), Minn. first appeared (1915) ... I checked other archived Postal Bulletins and see references to Traffic Station through 1941 but no official date when that Station was discontinued:

Very nice covers, especially the Harding cover. Hopefully, something will turn up in my searches.
