jogil: Your wish came true!

I scanned through the list quickly. Looks I'll be spending extra time with TurboLister changing categories around. At least Africa has been expanded now and I can separate Ukraine from Russia although that might get out of date quick.

I still don't like using the worldwide subgroups to list any sort of cover - too much of a hodgepodge. I rather still list them by country or topical.

It looks like the changes to Germany amount to changing the name to "Germany and Colonies" from "Germany and Area". Problem solved [/sarcasm]. OTOH, if you collect some of the smaller, less popular countries, they'll finally get their own category.

Yep, areas like Germany and France basically remain the same. It is nice to see some of the smaller countries with their own group now. Not as many countries have to be subject to the dark realm of "Other" anymore. San Marino and Vatican have their own groups now and don't have to share with Italy. Oceania is expanded and so is Central America and Caribbean. There are no groups for Cuba nor Sudan which is no surprise given ebay's misguided policies. However they still have a group for Iran.

Wow! I actually got a response back already! Apparently from a real person!

Thanks so much for taking the time to look through the new redesign in Stamps.

During this round of changes, our focus was on the following goals:
1. increase cross-border trade between our sister sites in UK, Germany, Australia, France, Italy & Spain, so that items listed on ebay in one of these countries can be found by American buyers (and so US sellers can reach a wider audience)
2. create a designated category for each stamp-issuing country, so that sellers aren't forced to list in Other
3. create a split between highly collectible British Colonial stamps, and newer stamps issued by post-colonial nations
4. add Item Specifics to every category, allowing sellers to classify more information about their stamps and letting buyers filter search results more effectively.

Unfortunately we weren't able to add more German subcategories during this phase of the redesign, but we believe that the listings from ebay.de will be easier to find now thanks to the Item Specifics we're adding. If there are particular subcategories for Germany that you'd like to see on the US side, please let me know and I'll be sure to save your suggestions for review during the next round of changes to Stamps.

Art,

I received the identical reply from Nora of the ebay Classification Team.
I suggested they look at the numerous sub-classifications of ebay.de.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

#1 through #3 are fine and a welcome change. #4 is pretty much a redundant waste of time if you already write meaningful descriptions and titles especially when you're dealing with listings in the hundreds to thousands. The same goes for the condition section - it's already written in the description. We really don't need to dumb it down any more.

Agreed. I don't see where you can filter search results by the item specifics, anyway, although I assume that might be coming. The year of issue field - assuming this is ever searchable - will be helpful. It would be nice if they had a field for catalog numbers, not so I can find a specific number, but to facilitate browsing for anything between, say, Scott 300 and 500. Although I don't know how they'd make that work with Scott's numbering system for some issues, like Germany 14NB16c, for example. Anyway, it doesn't look like much will be changing anytime soon, so I'll just have to deal with it for now.
