Some of these are not fancy cancels by definition though. Some are roller cancels, mute cancels, doughnut cancels, partial CDS dials. Having said that though, There is some mighty fine looking stamps in that group! I especially enjoy your "pink Lincolns" (like the third one up from last post). It's all very interesting to see. -Jeff

This Airmail is the only stamp that F.D.R. designed in it's entirety. He scribbled the design down on a napkin with instructions that it should be red white and blue.

President Roosevelt-

Quote:
Franklin Delano Roosevelt's original design for the 1938 airmail postage stamp with the annotation: "red border, blue eagle, white background ... Franklin D. Roosevelt, fecit."

Also the Duplex cancel is a 2-part cancellation device in one. Here is an example of a duplex cancellation device. The numbers in the killer/football/lozenge/etc... is said to be the postal clerk for that particular canceller. Basically if they have to trace a letter for some reason they can look and see who was assigned that cancellation device on that day. Again that's just a theory and I don't know if that's 100% correct or not?

About one your unknown 2¢ Washington on page #6 of this thread.

Quote:
"This two cent stamp of George Washington, Scott number unknown, shows a cancellation of triangles.

"

Design A88, Type II. triangles? {hard to see}

Without watermark {Wmk. 191} - #251

With Watermark {Wmk. 191} - #266

Also, I love some of those foreign mail cancellations on the end of pg. 3 and 4. especially the Wheel of fortune, Maltese cross and Nautical star

Actually, some of those "negative X" cancels are also called "cross-roads" cancels. Didn't know if you knew that or not? Nice collection you have here almach!

This two dollar stamp of the U.S. Capitol, Scott number 572, issued in 1923, shows a perfin cancellation.

Just to clarify the perfin on the stamp is NOT a cancellation, but was meant as a security device to prevent unauthorized use of the stamps by the owner. In this case, the perfin appears to read "CNB" which would have been used by Chase National Bank.

Here is an un-used large multiple with P.R.R. perfin. Pennsylvania Rail Road.

For some reason, this cancel reminds me of a space alien in an old version of a video game.
