I've been collecting for many years, and all the covers I had were the full envelope - front & back. I recently inherited a collection that had some covers with just the front panel, many of them from WWII era.

I would imagine it detracts from the value of the cover, but what would be a good ballpark figure to use versus a complete cover?

There was a recent discussion of fronts and their desirability in the US Covers forum. See link.

Half way between a cut square and a full cover. Maybe. And only in those where countries where cut squares have value of course, Canada not being one of them.

I have several cover fronts in my collections. Of course I prefer a full cover. Most of them are space fillers until a nicer example come along. Some of them are special enough to me to have found a permanent home in my collection. It's a lot like stamps. I would prefer a nice CDS socked right on the nose, but I have a lot of stamps that do not meet that criteria. I even have a few mint that fill the space until a nice used one comes along to take it's place. I am going to post a cover tonight that I was thrilled to find last week that many of you will not find as beautiful as I do.
There are no rules. Collect what you like.
