I finally got back to my on-going project of re-mounting my UK collection, and I need some ideas for my tricky pieces.

Most of the stamps in the collection are used singles or pairs, so I have Lindner stock page albums with nine rows of clear plastic on black pages (I like to see my perfs). So I just type up a description and tuck it in behind the clear plastic on one row as a heading. Then I tuck the stamp(s) onto the next row(s).

I'm very happy with this, but the problem is that anything bigger than a strip of four (five if the stamps are taller than they are wide) won't fit on the page.

I have tried turning the strips sideways and tucking them into the bottom row (there are interleaves that help hold them in place), but that gives me a strip of stamps about 6 - 8 inches tall that is only held in place at the very bottom, and they do flop around, so I fear over time they will break.

I am considering putting them in a mount first, and then continuing to tuck them in sideways. But this won't work for really big items -- like a block of ten with a fancy margin around it -- it might get so heavy it would flop out and/or even tear the clear plastic that's holding it.

Since the album is bound, I don't want to stick the mount to the page, because then I can't move them around if I need to.

I am therefore thinking that I should probably invest in a different kind of album, for the larger items.

I am not wild about going to Vario pages -- I use them for my precancels, but I would prefer to stick to paper or cardstock for the UK material.

Ideally, I'd like a BOUND album with Vario-type pages so that I can stick different types of blocks and strips into each page without using a mount. But I don't suppose there are any out there that are designed with a single type of page that is still flexible enough to accommodate both my text, and/or my strips of five and/or my blocks of 10 - 20 on a single type of page (and still look sensible).

Other than Vario, the best ideas I can come up with are:

a) to make my own pages and stick mounts onto them (but that would end up as loose-leaf); OR

b) to buy a plain bound album with heavyish plain pages and stick both my typed description and a mount onto each page (but I don't want to stick my text on - I think it would look untidy).

Am I missing some other solution -- or does someone know of a good quality plain/grid bound album for this purpose?

Thanks,
Jan

Hi, I collect UK as well... for my blocks and strips I use trimmed cover mounts. I attach them using double sided tape which usually removes easily. try it on a piece of paper to make sure it will not damage your album pages. Personally I create my own album pages on card stock using a free program called stamp page creator.. I can reprint any page I want to change at will... hope this helps.
