Nice material.
By the way, do you know who's image is shown on those Louisiana Law Stamps? |

Quote: Hi WT1! I do not. I would guess governor though. I looked it up and you're partially right. The values below $1 depict the image of the 29th Governor of Louisiana, Louis A. Wiltz, who signed the act calling the stamps into existence. The $1 and higher values depict Chief Justice Edouard Bermudez, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Louisana. Interestingly, as noted in the excerpt below, even though the stamps read "Louisiana Law Stamp", the stamps were restricted and confined to use only in the City of New Orleans. |

Threads like these make me realize how little I know about revenue stamps. Those LA and NV stamps are the stones. |

Since it warmed up in Minnesota this weekend I got my fix of Minnesota Gopher baseball. It happened to be the first home games of the year. They've been on the road for 6 six weeks playing in Florida, California, and Louisiana. Tom |

Thanks! I've had my eye out for the Cardinal Match stamp for a while and this one is in fabulous shape, although the centering is not very good, I'm still very pleased, especially at 70% of SCV. WT1, I've created a page for those Louisiana law stamps, if you want to follow me over to the US BOB section I'll post it there. |

In downtown, Barcelona (Catalonia, Europe)we have a Sunday, open air stamp & coin market. I go there most weeks. I ussually visit five or six dealers hunting for stamps, covers and cinderellas. Prices can be ok... if you know the items and the people. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes no... Yesterday, it was raining, but I took the underground and went there. To my surprise I was able to buy two dozens stamps, cinderellas and tax stamps. Amongst them: Some Catalan Nationalist cinderellas: A Barcelona Trading tax stamp of around 1945: A 1937 Anarchist cinderella: Four French WWII cinderellas: Plus a pair of high value Machins for my collection and other minor items. A lucky morning! |

Hello to Dianne and was pleased to meet her at the Fredericton Stamp show last week-end. I picked up some really nice KGV Canadian coils, KGVI booklets, several Nova Scotia proofs and a nice early St. Pierre & Miquelon set (SG96A to 106A). |

Those are some amazing revenues and cinderellas. I found half a dozen cheques with stamps on this weekend, dating from 1952 and 1953. Most were common KGVI postage or 3˘ excise stamps, but two caught my eye because they sported meter postage and excise, rather than stick on stamps. Here are close ups of the meters. The excise is a Type A Excise Tax Revenue Meter in the van Dam catalogue. |

I did pick these up recently. These are exposition covers with the Barcelona Exposition stamps. Edit: It would help if I included a picture of what I was referring to. |

The centering on the Cardinal Match stamp is about average for that stamp. They were printed by the BEP; there were 13,530,000 printed and it was a relatively late match company. Issued between March 1880 and May 1881. The tax act lasted until March 3, 1883. |

Quote: The centering on the Cardinal Match stamp is about average for that stamp. They were printed by the BEP According to this article, the Cardinal Match Stamp was printed by the American Bank Note Co., not the BEP. Which is correct? http://www.missouripostalhistory.or...e%20v5n4.pdfI also thought this was a rather interesting comment (yellow highlights). Does anyone know how this was actually accomplished? |
